About Us (Gerben, Elke & Michelle Hartskeerl)
After living on the Dutch Antilles for numerous years, we went back to Holland after selling our restaurant (t Ankertje on Bonaire)
We stayed for 6 years in Holland,
but the draw back to "the Americas" was strong, so we went a couple of times to Mexico on vacation and in 2005 we decided to sell our belongings in Holland.
January 2006 we set foot on Mexican ground, landed in Merida and drove to nearest coast town-Progreso we looked for an investment opportunity and quickly we discovered the Hotel which we now run.
We bought the building in March 2006 and after a couple of months of renovations, we opened the Hotel Yakunah, which means:falling in love. In the contense of: falling in love with: ...Mexico,...the maya culture,...the ocean,...the relaxed atmosphere, etc.
Michelle is going to school in Merida, where she is having classes in English and Spanish.
We wanted to make the hotel interesting for relaxers and cultural tourism and considering the neighborhood of Yucatan, they both will have it their way.
